Size Guide
The Hello Moon guide to choosing the right size
Choosing the right size is about more than just a letter on a label. From one brand to another, and from one cut to another, the same size can fit very differently.
That’s why the aim of this guide isn’t to confine you to a strict size chart, but to give you simple guidelines for choosing the size best suited to your body shape, the garment’s cut, and the look you want.
Why size matters… but isn’t everything?
A size is above all a guide. It helps inform your choice, but on its own, it is not enough to determine how a garment will fit.
Two pieces in “M” can have a completely different drape depending on:
- their cut (fitted, straight, oversized)
- their fabric (flowy, stretchy, structured)
- their elasticity
- their construction
A flowy dress is not chosen in the same way as structured jeans, and an oversized sweater is not worn like a fitted blazer. That is why it is essential to consider all of these factors before choosing your size.
Size, fit, and body shape: three different concepts
To choose a garment correctly, it is important to distinguish between three concepts:
- Size: refers to measurements (XS, S, M, L…)
- Fit: defines how the garment falls on the body
- Body shape: refers to how the volume of your silhouette is distributed
👉 If you would like to explore this topic further, you can consult our dedicated body shape guide.
How to take your measurements?
To choose the right size, it is essential to know your key measurements. Take a flexible tape measure and measure:
Bust measurement: Around the fullest part of your bust, without pulling the tape tight.
Waist measurement: Around the narrowest part of your torso, usually above your navel.
Hip measurement : Around the widest part of your hips.
✔️ A few tips:
- stand naturally
- do not pull the tape measure tight
- take your measurements over thin clothing or directly against your skin
- ask for help if necessary for greater accuracy
The dimensions of our clothing
At Hello Moon, we know that a simple S, M, or L isn’t always enough to make the right choice. That’s why we provide the garment’s key measurements directly on every product page.
This allows you to easily compare them with a piece you already own and enjoy wearing.
We also indicate the size worn by the model on all our product pages. This information helps you better visualize how the garment looks when worn.

How to use our product pages?
To help you make the right choice, each Hello Moon product page has been designed as a genuine decision-making tool.
There, you’ll find several essential pieces of information:
- the detailed garment measurements
- the fabric composition
- the product’s fit (straight, loose, fitted, oversized…)
- the size worn by the model
- sometimes, sizing advice when a style fits differently
👉 If you’re hesitating between two sizes, we recommend that you:
- compare the garment measurements with a similar item in your wardrobe
- take your preferred fit into account (fitted or looser)
- consider the fabric (with or without stretch)
Taken together, these details are much more reliable than a simple size indication.
Choose the right size for each category
Tops: tops, T-shirts, shirts, blouses, sweaters, cardigans, bodysuits
Check:
- bust
- shoulders
- desired ease
Keep in mind:
- flowy fabrics drape more naturally
- stretch provides greater comfort
- oversized cuts are designed to be worn loose
Bottoms: jeans, trousers, shorts, skirts
Check:
- waist
- hips
- length
Keep in mind:
- stiff fabrics have a more structured fit
- stretch fabrics are more forgiving
- if in doubt → use the hips as your reference point
One-piece styles: dresses, sets, jumpsuits
What to check:
- bust
- waist
- hips
- overall length
Key points:
- the bust is often the deciding factor
- the cut has a major impact on the fit
- fluid fabrics offer more flexibility
Jackets & coats
Check :
- shoulders
- room at the bust
- layering
Keep in mind:
- a jacket should be able to close without pulling
- a coat is often slightly looser
Shoes
Check:
- foot length
- width depending on the style
Keep in mind:
- some materials stretch slightly (leather, suede)
- if you're unsure → prioritize comfort
What about during pregnancy?
During pregnancy, your body changes gradually, and your usual size may no longer be the best guide.
Rather than relying solely on the label (XS, S, M, L…), we recommend checking the measurements provided on each product page. They will make it easy to compare the garment’s measurements with a piece you already wear and better anticipate how it will fit.
Flowing cuts, stretchy fabrics and elasticated waistbands often offer greater comfort and freedom of movement, depending on your preferences and stage of pregnancy.

The most common mistakes
Choosing your size online can sometimes seem complicated, but certain mistakes are common:
• relying solely on your usual size
• overlooking the garment’s cut
• failing to take the fabric into account
• not checking the measurements provided
• comparing two brands with each other
• overlooking the information provided on the product page
These factors are nevertheless essential for making a more reliable choice.
