H-shaped body type guide
H-shaped body type: the Hello Moon guide to creating outfits that reflect your personal style
At Hello Moon, we believe that a successful outfit isn’t about rules. We want to make fashion easier in your everyday life.
This guide is designed to help you understand your body shape and put together outfits you feel good in, without pigeonholing yourself.
Our goal is to help you avoid the dreaded “I have nothing to wear” by making it easier to create the right combinations in your wardrobe.
Understanding your body shape
An H-shaped body type is a silhouette in which the shoulders and hips are aligned, with a naturally less defined waist.
This creates a straight and harmonious line, often perceived as very modern and easy to dress. It allows for a great deal of freedom in terms of style, as there is no natural imbalance to correct.
At Hello Moon, we see body shape as a starting point for better understanding the effects of clothing, not as a constraint.
How to take your measurements easily
To better understand your body shape, you can look at 3 areas:
- the shoulders
- the waist
- the hips
In front of a mirror, simply look for:
- whether these three areas are aligned
- whether the waist is not very defined
- whether the silhouette forms a fairly straight line
That is more than enough to identify your body shape.
The advantages of an H-shaped body type
The H-shaped body type is particularly interesting because it is highly versatile.
It allows you to:
- wear straight cuts very naturally
- play with fluid or structured silhouettes
- adopt minimalist or more elaborate styles
- easily vary your looks according to your mood
There is no single way to dress it. There are several.
H-shaped body type
The upper body
H-shaped body types can easily play with volume and details.
- Round, V-neck or square necklines
- Straight or slightly oversized tops
- Flowing or structured shirts
- Puff sleeves or shoulder details if you like to draw attention upward
- Printed blouses to add dimension to an outfit
The goal isn’t to “correct” a silhouette, but to create the effect you like.
Jeans and trousers
Bottoms make it easy to structure an outfit.
- Straight-leg jeans
- Mom jeans
- Slim-fit jeans
- Flowy trousers
- Wide-leg or palazzo trousers
- Cigarette trousers
High-waisted styles are particularly interesting because they visually rebalance the silhouette, but low-rise styles are also perfectly suitable depending on the desired look.
Dresses
H-shaped body types can wear almost any dress.
- Shift dresses for a minimalist style
- Shirt dresses for an effortless everyday look
- Flowy dresses for a natural and comfortable feel
- Wrap dresses if you want to suggest a waist
It all depends on the effect you want to create.
Skirts
Skirts offer plenty of freedom:
- Straight skirts for a sleek style
- Flowy midi skirts for a feminine look
- Pleated skirts to add movement
- A-line skirts to vary the volume
The fabric often has more impact than the cut itself.
Sweaters and cardigans
Knitwear lets you play with textures:
- Straight-cut or oversized sweaters
- Lightweight or chunky knits, depending on the season
- Open cardigans to elongate the silhouette
- Sweaters tucked slightly into trousers to structure the look
Jackets and coats
Jackets are especially flattering on a straight body shape.
- Fitted or oversized blazers
- Cropped jackets to add energy to the silhouette
- Trench coats for a fluid line
- Straight or belted coats, depending on the desired effect
Why does it work?
Our eye is naturally drawn to lines, shapes, and contrasts.
An outfit works when:
- the proportions are visually balanced
- the shapes complement one another
- or, on the contrary, create a deliberate contrast
There is no right or wrong combination. Just different effects.
Our ideas for your wardrobe
At Hello Moon, we believe that a great outfit starts with the right combination.
That’s why we select clothes that are easy to mix and match. The goal isn’t to fill your wardrobe, but to help you put together outfits that make you feel good, without spending long minutes hesitating in front of your closet.
The same piece, such as a pair of straight-leg jeans, can complement a variety of styles depending on your mood:
- with a fluid blouse and ankle boots for a feminine, elegant silhouette
- with a T-shirt and a denim jacket for a casual everyday look
- with a slightly tucked-in knit sweater and a belt to naturally define the silhouette
- with a blazer and loafers for a dressier outfit
Béryl’s advice
Whenever I select a new piece, I always ask myself the same question: what can it be worn with once it arrives in your wardrobe?
If I can easily imagine several combinations, it definitely belongs in the collection!
Because a garment we wear often is usually one that naturally fits in with the rest of our wardrobe.
