V-shaped body type: Hello Moon’s guide to putting together outfits that reflect your style

At Hello Moon, we believe that a successful outfit isn’t about following rules. We want to make fashion easier in your everyday life.

This guide is designed to help you understand your body shape and put together outfits that make you feel good, without putting you in a box.

Our goal is to help you avoid the classic “I have nothing to wear” by making it easier to create the right combinations with the clothes in your wardrobe.

Understanding your body shape

The inverted triangle body shape is a silhouette where the shoulders are broader than the hips. This creates a naturally dynamic line, with an often more defined upper body and a subtler lower body.

This is a very common body shape and particularly interesting to dress, as it makes it easy to play with volume and balance.

At Hello Moon, we see body shape as a tool for understanding the effects of clothing, not as a constraint.

How to take your measurements easily

To better understand your body shape, you can look at 3 areas:

- the shoulders

- the waist

- the hips

In front of a mirror, the idea is simply to identify:

- whether the shoulders are wider than the hips

- whether the silhouette is more pronounced on top

- whether the lower body is more discreet

That is more than enough to determine your shape.

Upper body

The goal isn’t to “reduce” the upper body, but to choose the effects you like.

  • V-neck or scoop necklines to soften the silhouette
  • Flowy tops that aren’t too structured at the shoulders
  • Lightweight blouses that move with you
  • Straight or slightly flared sleeves
  • Soft colors or prints placed on the lower part if you want to create visual balance

Jeans and trousers

The lower body is an excellent area for creating balance.

  • Straight-leg jeans
  • Mom jeans
  • Bootcut or flare jeans
  • Wide-leg trousers
  • Palazzo trousers
  • High-waisted fluid trousers

Volume on the lower body naturally helps rebalance the silhouette.

Dresses

The V-shaped body type can wear many dresses:

  • A-line dresses to visually widen the lower body
  • Flowy dresses for a natural look
  • Wrap dresses to gently define the silhouette
  • Flared dresses to balance the proportions

The goal is often to create movement around the lower body.

Skirts

Skirts are particularly interesting:

  • Flared skirts
  • Pleated skirts
  • Flowing midi skirts
  • A-line skirts

They help add volume where the silhouette naturally lacks it.

Sweaters and cardigans

Knitwear should remain fluid and comfortable:

  • Straight or slightly loose-fitting sweaters
  • Open cardigans to elongate the silhouette
  • Fine knits rather than very thick ones around the shoulders
  • Simple sweaters without too much structure around the upper body

Jackets and coats

Jackets can be used to soften the shoulder line.

  • Straight-cut jackets
  • Slightly fluid blazers
  • Long coats to lengthen the silhouette
  • Open trench coats for a vertical line

Why does it work?

Our eye is naturally drawn to lines, shapes, and contrasts.

An outfit works when:

  • the proportions are visually balanced
  • the shapes work well together
  • or create a deliberate contrast

For a V-shaped body type, this often means a more substantial bottom and a looser-fitting top.

Our ideas for your wardrobe

At Hello Moon, we believe a great outfit starts with the right combination.

That's why we select clothes that are easy to mix and match with one another. The goal isn't to fill your wardrobe, but to help you put together outfits that make you feel good, without spending long minutes hesitating in front of your closet.

The same piece, such as a fluid-fit pair of trousers, can complement a multitude of styles depending on your mood that day:

- with a fluid-fit top and sandals for a lightweight look

- with a blouse and loafers for an elegant outfit

- with a T-shirt and a denim jacket for a casual style

- with fine-knitwear for a comfortable look

Béryl’s advice

When I select a piece, I always think about its potential in a complete wardrobe.

If it can be worn in several ways, with different styles, then it has a place at Hello Moon.

Because a garment we wear often is usually one that naturally fits in with the rest of our wardrobe.
