X Body Shape Guide

X-shaped body type: the Hello Moon guide to creating outfits that reflect your style

At Hello Moon, we believe that a successful outfit isn’t about rules. We want to make fashion easier in your everyday life.

This guide is designed to help you understand your body shape and put together outfits that make you feel good, without boxing you into categories.

Our goal is to help you avoid the famous “I have nothing to wear” by making it easier to create the right combinations in your wardrobe.

Understanding your body shape

An X-shaped body type is defined by a silhouette where the shoulders and hips are aligned, with a naturally defined waist.

It is a very harmonious silhouette, often considered balanced, because the volume of the upper and lower body naturally complement each other.

At Hello Moon, we don’t see this body type as an ideal to achieve, but as a way to understand how clothing affects your silhouette.

How to take your measurements easily

To better understand your body shape, you can look at 3 areas:

- the shoulders

- the waist

- the hips

In front of a mirror, simply look for:

- whether the shoulders and hips are balanced

- whether the waist is naturally defined

- whether the silhouette forms a light, harmonious “S”

That’s more than enough to identify your body shape.

The advantages of an X-shaped body type

The X-shaped body type has several strengths:

- a naturally balanced silhouette

- a defined waist without effort

- great versatility when it comes to cuts

- the ease of wearing fitted or flowing clothing

It’s a body type that makes it very easy to switch up your style.

Upper-body clothing

The upper body can be dressed in many different ways.

- V-necks to elongate the silhouette

- Round necklines for a soft, timeless look

- Fitted or slightly tailored blouses

- Wrap tops that naturally accentuate the waist

- A variety of sleeve styles to suit the desired look

Jeans and trousers

The lower half of the body can be styled in many different ways.

  • Slim or straight-leg jeans
  • High-waisted jeans
  • Bootcut or flared jeans to elongate the legs
  • Flowy trousers for an elegant look
  • Cigarette trousers for a more structured style
  • Wide-leg trousers, depending on your mood

Dresses

Dresses are especially flattering on an X-shaped body type.

  • Fitted dresses
  • Wrap dresses
  • Surplice dresses
  • Waist-fitted dresses
  • Fit-and-flare dresses

The goal is often to naturally accentuate the waist without feeling restricted.

Skirts

Skirts are very easy to style:

  • Pencil skirts
  • Midi skirts
  • A-line skirts
  • Flowy skirts
  • Wrap skirts

Sweaters and cardigans

Knitwear can be very versatile:

  • Fitted or slightly tailored sweaters
  • Fine-knit tops tucked into trousers
  • Cardigans worn open for a fluid effect
  • Wrap sweaters to structure the silhouette

Jackets and coats

Jackets play an important role in emphasizing the waist.

  • Fitted blazers
  • Belted jackets
  • Fitted coats
  • Trench coats with a defined waist

Why does it work?

Our eyes are naturally drawn to lines, volumes, and contrasts.

An outfit works when:

- the proportions are visually balanced

- the waist is accentuated or subtly suggested

- the volumes of the top and bottom complement each other harmoniously

Our ideas for your wardrobe

At Hello Moon, we believe a great outfit starts with the right combination.

That’s why we select clothes that are easy to mix and match. The goal isn’t to fill your wardrobe, but to help you put together outfits that make you feel good, without spending long minutes hesitating in front of your closet.

Take slim-fit jeans, for example. The same piece can complement a wide range of styles depending on your mood:

- with a flowing blouse and ankle boots for a feminine look

- with a T-shirt and a denim jacket for a casual style

- with a tucked-in knit and a belt to define the silhouette

- with a blazer for a dressier outfit

Béryl’s advice

When I select a piece, I always think about how it will fit into a complete wardrobe.

If it can be worn in several ways and with different styles, then it belongs at Hello Moon.

Because a garment we wear often is one that naturally fits in with the rest of our wardrobe.
